 King John's Morris Men

King John's Morris Men perform Cotswold, North West and Border morris and a mummers' play in and around Southampton, and often further afield, and are actively seeking new members.

See our virtual mummers' play, as featured on BBC South Today on Friday 18th December 2020 and in the Hampshire Chronicle on Thursday 17th December 2020

As, for some reason, we haven't been able to dance, sing or play "live" recently, we have also produced a CD of our songs and music - Pig Sticking, which is available at the very reasonable price of £5.00 plus postage and packing.

As we again couldn't dance on May Day this year, Harry and Guy have conspired to produce a jig which Harry has recently learned - see it on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/XgO0NH_PvOo

In normal times, we meet on Mondays from 8:00 p.m. between September and April and normally dance out at suitable venues, usually on a Thursday evening, between May and August, and at various other events. From September 2019 our practice venue has been the Scout Hut, 44-50 Brickfield Road, Portswood, Southampton SO17 3AE.

Given the current pandemic restrictions, we have not been able to dance out since March 2020, nor have we been able to hold our usual practices. When practices do recommence, it will be announced here.

The illustration above and the cartoons at the end of each page are by very talented David Hutchings - one of our resting members.

  • Events provides details of where we have been recently and where we will be in the near future. We also usually sing and play after we have danced on a Thursday evening from May to September, and hold and music and song session once a month between September and April.
The draft 2020 programme was just that, given the Covid-19 pandemic, we are unlikely to be able to dance at any venue until later in 2021.

  • Mumming has information about our (lack of) mummers' play venues this year, but, we have a virtual play to delight and amuse (perhaps).
